Teen honoured for courage in B&E

A teenage girl managed to keep herself safe and help make an arrest Friday night as an intruder pillaged her home.
Around 9:40 p.m. April 24, Delta police received a 9-1-1 call about a break-and-enter in progress in the 1400 block of 53A Street.
It was the sound of someone at the door - when no one was expected - that sprung 14-year-old Olivia into action.
The quick-thinking teen grabbed a cordless phone and called her father as she hid in a closet.
With his help, Olivia was able to connect with a police dispatcher and gave a detailed outline of what was happening inside the house as officers raced to the scene.
At one point, the robber entered the same room Olivia was hiding in, but police say the teen stayed calm and kept communicating with the dispatcher using signals.
Within minutes, police arrived and arrested the suspect.
James Paul Perrault, 55, has been charged with break and enter and possession of break-in instruments. He will appear in court May 6.
As for Olivia, Delta police honoured her yesterday for her “courageous” ability to work with police during the incident.
