Ladysmith RCMP issue warning about violent intruder
One woman physically and sexually assaulted

Two women in their 50s awoke to find a strange man in their bedrooms last night, and one was physically and sexually assaulted. Police believe the same suspect is responsible for both intrusions.
Ladysmith RCMP are issuing a public warning to people to secure their homes and be aware of their personal safety.
The first incident occurred in the 100-block of Buller Street in Ladysmith, at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, when a woman awoke to find a man in her bedroom. After a brief interaction, the male ran away, RCMP said in a press release.
The woman, who lives alone, was not injured. Police searched the area, but the suspect was not found. Police believe a vehicle or bicycle may have been used in his escape.
A second woman awoke about an hour later to find a man in her bedroom. She was physically and sexually assaulted, police said.
She received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Her teenage child was home at the time, but did not awaken during the incident. Again, a police search did not find a suspect.
“It is our assessment that the public need to be armed with the knowledge of these events, so they can take the necessary steps to secure their homes, and secure the homes of people they care for,” said Cpl. Darren Lagan of the Vancouver Island RCMP. “We are doing everything possible to identify and apprehend this individual. If you can help us in any way, please call the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.”
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with a dark complexion, who is approximately six feet tall with short, dark hair. He is believed to be in his early 20s, with a fit, slim build. He was wearing a dark-coloured T-shirt with a printed pattern on the chest, blue jeans, sneakers and a green hoodie sweatshirt.
